Birjand University of Medical Sciences
Dr. Kazemi noted: "Sustainable health
depends on changing life style and teaching children to live healthy".
By pointing out to Health Week (April 21-April 27) and its slogan
"Public Health Services Coverage, for all People and Everywhere",
deputy of the university research and technology center said: "the most
common causes of death in Iran (2016– 2017) were firstly cardiovascular
diseases and the other causes are cancer, chronic pulmonary diseases
respectively, and the forth cause is confirmed to be fatal accidents.

Dr. Toba Kazemi suggested
that cardiovascular are very common in the society, and we observe such
problems even among young people; then she added: "by providing correct
treatment forthose people with heart
diseases, in early stages, we can also prevent consequences and negative
effects of the disease and this is called secondary prevention".

She announced that
fortunately cardiologists are presentin
all counties of South Khorasan province and then she noted that in other
counties internists are present and they can easily utilize clinical
examinations in diagnosis of emergency cases. Regarding the presence of these
cardiologists and internist in many counties of the province, emergency
treatment for heart attacks is delivered by medication administration to delay
heart attack and stop the progression of heart failure.

President of research
center of cardiovascular diseases in the university pointed out to the services
available in local center of the province and she said: "in Birjand, the
local center of the province, we perform angiography and balloon Valvuloplasty
in emergency cases (balloon Valvuloplasty is performed for the patients that referbecause of acute myocardial infarction and
this procedure widens the heart valve which helps the patients to get back to their
normal life as soon as possible and most importantly, it prevents some negative
effects of heart failure and heart enlargement)".

Dr Kazemi was pleased to say that although most cardiologists in this
province work in special clinics but fortunately disadvantaged people of the
society have access to these specialists too. she added: "in other cases
of diagnosing heart diseases, in addition to heart attack, when patients refer
to clinics, office of doctors and so on, first steps of diagnosis including echocardiography and cardiac stress test are available there and those patients that need angiography can refer to
local center of the province; it is fortunate that in Birjand, we have the best
condition to diagnose heart diseases". she noted that some risk factors of
heart disease such as blood pressure, diabetes, being overweight, being
physically inactive and so on need planning to improve the condition of the
patients. she added: "fortunately, regarding the implantation of Health
Reform Plan in healthcare services by Heath Ministry, in bases of health and in
comprehensive health service centers, immediate diagnosis of these risk factors
is performed among middle-aged and old aged groups, and those who are diagnosed
as patients get necessary treatment.

Dr. Kazemi pointed to
research projects in research centers of the university that focus on
communicable and non-communicable diseases and continued: "by local
investigation, we try to improve our understanding about these diseases and
their treatment". she believes that starting a cardiac rehab program in
this province for those patients who need rehabilitation after heart attack or
surgery, is one of the most urgent actions to be done and she said: "open
heart surgery has been performed since 2009 in Birjand and now, emergency cases
are dealt throughout the day and fortunately, we have good results in these
cases".

Deputy of the university
research and technology center pointed to the case of stroke and she said that
if the patient refer to the hospital soon (up to three hours and a half),
immediate administration of medication will prevent its negative effects (complete paralysis of half of the body, inability to work for a long term and so on). Then she added: "in this
medical center it is possible to work on such cases and in some counties we
have neurologists and we can manage these cases". DrKazemi's advice is that
we should start from ourselves and she continued: "studies show that
manyof health factors are related to
our life style; in other words, 50 percent of factorsdepend
on people's life style, 20 percent of factors are related to genetic issues, 20
percent of factors are related to environmental ones and just 10 percent of
factors arerelated to health care
system".

she said that administration of health care
system is done well by health ministry and universities of medical science and
she continued: "the most important part is related to life style. we
should be aware that one mistake, having a high-fat diet or a salty one, eating
too much sugar, and so on will cause many problems for a young person such as
vision problems, shortness of breath and other types of problems; or the person
may have a stroke! In many cases, stroke means becoming a paralyzed person for a
long time.
