The Vice-Chancellor of Treatment Affairs stated that the provision of specialized orthopedic services for children was one of the services that needed to be planned by BUMS. He said: patients were forced to travel to other centers such as Tehran and Mashhad to receive these services and the families had to bear a lot of costs, while sometimes the patients did not manage to receive the required services.
Dr. Ali Akbar Esmaili stated that providing optimal services and meeting medical needs in South Khorasan province is one of the duties and missions of BUMS. He added: " in order to receive these services, since last year coordination was made with Tehran University of Medical Sciences, and with the cooperation of the university's orthopedic specialist team, Dr. Nabiyan announced his readiness to be present in South Khorasan province for three to four days a month in order to visit and perform pediatric orthopedic surgeries in Birjand."
He announced that during the 4 days of Dr. Nabiyan's presence from 16 to 19 August 2022, about 200 patients were visited on Tuesday till Friday, and about 30
orthopedic surgeries were performed on Wednesday and on Thursday. He noted that: During the 6 visits of the pediatric orthopedic specialist in the province, more
than 800 patients were visited and about 200 advanced orthopedic surgeries were
performed in Imam Reza Hospital.
 
Dr. Esmaili, referring to the MOU with the "Mohkam" charity organization to support children with congenital anomalies and the presence of a pediatric orthopedic specialist in the province, added: "The implementation of these programs is one of the policies of the university."
