Mission :

Scientometrics is the measurement and analysis of science, which measures the scientific productions of researchers and organizations in the form of quantitative variables.

Scientometrics is one of the most common methods of evaluating scientific activities. This method emerged in Soviet Russia and was used in Eastern European countries, especially Hungary, to measure science at the national and international levels.

Today, the world pursues knowledge-based development, and in line with this goal, in developed countries, scientometrics is considered as one of the most common indicators for evaluating the scientific activities of each country. In scientometric evaluations, the most common criterion for determining the scientific status and ranking of countries is the amount of participation in the production of science, innovation, technology, and in general, participation in the development process of global science.

Every year, the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education ranks medical universities in terms of educational and research quality. The rank obtained by each university shows the level of scientific capabilities of the said university. In the ranking of universities of medical sciences, different criteria are taken into consideration, including the ranking criteria, attention to educational and research activities and scientific outputs of faculty members. The Scientometric Unit of Birjand University of Medical Sciences was established in July 1390 with the aim of providing a clear picture of the university's research record and measuring the scientific productions of researchers, as well as drawing the horizon of future researches, along with other universities of medical sciences. In fact, the mission of the Science and Technology Unit is to show the most correct way of science and technology policy and planning and to help in the optimal use of available resources to achieve the best, most effective and achievable goals of science and technology development.
